Hi, Treason!

I know this is crass but it is also true and funny. A good friend of mine and fellow cartoonist, Michael Capozzola, thought up this gag and I created it in Photoshop from a campaign poster I found online.

Regardless of whether you are liberal or conservative, it is impossible to intentionally argue that Sarah Palin is qualified or in any way suitable to be in charge of the most powerful country on earth. Considering McCain's age and health, it is more than irresponsible to choose her for that office, it is treasonous.

It is not only irresponsible to choose her for that office, it is the American Way.

Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich starkly contrasted Palin’s record with Obama’s: “She’s been a real mayor, he hasn’t. She’s been a real Governor, he hasn’t. She’s been in charge of the Alaskan National Guard, he hasn’t. She was a whistle-blower who defeated an incumbent mayor. He has never once shown that kind of courage. She’s a whistle-blower who turned in the chairman of her own party and got him fined $12,000. I’ve never seen Obama do one thing like that. She took on the incumbent Governor of her own party and beat him, and then she beat a former Democratic Governor in the election. I don’t know of a single thing Obama’s done except talk and write.”

Frankly, I think this vitriol has much more to do with her being a vivacious, strong, conservative woman. Some of the comments I've seen posted on this blog are downright disgusting!

I thought Palin held her own in the dabate. The pundits are all calling this a huge victory for Palin. So what's the next litmus test?

It's the conservative part, Josh. The strong, vivacous and woman part we have no issue with. Hillary Clinton matches at least 2 of those and she almost won.

Its the conservative part that wants to let huge businesses and millionaires pay less taxes. Its the conservative that is fine with multi-million dollar insurance companies who are focused on profits instead of well-being keep their stranglehold on the medical industry.

Its also the part where she can't answer a simple question like "What magazines do you read?" and plays off like Katie Couric was trying to trap her. No one is filtering her! Maybe that why she is so unpopular, she needs someone to filter the junk out so we don't see how clueless she is.

She keeps going on about how we need a Washington outsider, than vote for Barack Obama, not McCain who as he readily admits 'Knows a lot of people' for who to pick for his cabinet.

Ah, that must be it--it has nothing to do with cognitive dissonance. And those pesky reporters--looking into her past record of cronyism or getting her to say the darndest things about Russia and Iran. Oh poor "strong", "conservative" gov.--she's being picked on! That explains why the campaign kept her away from reporters...so she'd keep her "strength" for the debates. How silly.

I understand that Biden was purposefully aiming his attacks at McCain and not at Palin (lest we look sexist and all that unmitigated crap) so I understand why he didn't do it, but...when Palin trotted out her hoary old, "The Bad Guys want to kill us because they hate our freedom," and then tacked on, "and the rights we give women," I SO badly wanted Biden to plaster her to the wall with that.

Palin wants to take AWAY some of the rights women in this country have, and thinks it's perfectly okay to make a rape victim pay for her own rape kit (used to collect forensic evidence). She shot down funding for rape kits (about $1000 to $1200) because she didn't want anyone to have access to Plan B contraception (the "morning after pill") which is often available in rape kits.

And...if Barack Obama had, even once, WINKED INTO THE FREAKING CAMERA, his bid for the White House would end instantly. I am utterly insulted by her, on every level.

"Jesus Use Me"

This slogan could be the "Battle Cry" of The Patriot Guards -- a voluntary force of motor cyclists that out-number and separate the disgusting so-called reverend Fred Phelps (and his family of cult members) from soldier's funerals. (Phelps group displays signs such as: "God Hates Fags."

Jeremy, it is also the conservative party which stands up for the rights of the unborn. It is also the conservative party which stands up for the traditional definition of marriage. You say you believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible? Then how can you support the party which sees the gay lifestyle as a perfectly natural alternative, the party that fights vehemently against the unborn's right to life, the party that restricts religious expression in the public square? People who despise the creationist viewpoint you and I hold usually vote Democrat.
As for your objections to the conservative party, it was the Conservatives in the House that opposed this 700 billion dollar bailout for failed corporations. The democrats and George Bush were all set to pass this unpopular bill, but when John McCain suspended his campaign, it derailed their plans. Led by McCain, the House republicans came to the table and argued that instead of just handing these corporations a check, they should instead "loan" them the money, and have the bank's repay the loan with interest. Democrats and Republicans agree that the new bailout bill is far improved, thanks to John McCain.
Second, it would be insane for Obama to raise taxes and nationalize health care when the economy is already struggling. What are we going to do? Tax businesses until they are at the point of collapse, then tax the American people to bail them out?
Furthermore, it was Democrats like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd who voted against John McCain's bill to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Why? They claimed that those companies were in no danger. Or maybe it was because those two companies had given them millions of dollars. Barack Obama is the Senator who received the third highest amount from those two companies.

Josh, it will mean looking at something that doesn't support the Koolaid you've been drinking, but Obama's plan only raises taxes on the ultra wealthy. Period. In the words of Joe Biden, "Facts matter."

And since you're so willing to toe the Focus on the Family line, I am wondering if you've pondered how to reconcile the thought of Palin trying to become one of the most powerful people in the world with the thought of the conservative Christian world view that states that good little wifeys don't work outside the home and don't lead at church? As it's stated in this article, "Many say that biblical restrictions on women's leadership apply to church and home, not the secular world -- clearing the way for a woman to run the nation but not a congregation."

What say you? Put down the Koolaid and say what YOU think, not what the GOP website tells you.

marine_explorer said...

"...It is also the conservative party..."

Hmm...there's a "conservative party" in the USA? There's one in the UK by that name, but what's in a name anyways? Last time I checked, even the GOP has a range of views, and doesn't quite achieve a perfectly conformist, lock-step hive-mind. What a bummer!

"… how can you support the party which sees the gay lifestyle as a perfectly natural alternative."

Uhh…I did not realize everyone in the GOP had a de-facto single opinion on the gay lifestyle. There can't be any gay congressmen either. Nor that all Dems want to force gay marriage on the country. But some do seem to be more tolerant towards gays. Guess that's what happens

I'm so amused how the religious right glom onto a few "important issues" (which never happen to involve them), but it's always someone else who's ruining their "traditional ideals". Us vs Them--how predictable. You might check that Book of yours, because Jesus had a name for people who treated others this way. Ultimately, most Americans have better sense than supposing an extremist, exclusionary viewpoint works for everyone. How medieval…no thanks.

josh, are you aware of the fact that taxes actually go BACK to you? instead of spending it on cheese burgers and SUVs you and your fellow citizens get health care! believe me, i live in Sweden, i KNOW.

and the new testament doesn't say squat about gay marriage. the old one does, but they also stone each other to death. why don't you and your fanatical friends pick up some rocks and get going?
