Emergency

PLEASE HELP US!!!

Sorry to alarm you with this picture of your favorite cartoonist (let me have my fantasies) and his CHNW being mauled by a polar bear, but I felt the need to make a dramatic point. Read on, but relax, I assure you we were in no danger in the picture above.

I rarely ask anything of you but I'd like to ask you to help out CHNW and me today. As some of you know, we are founding board members of the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. It's expensive to rescue animals, what with all the night drops over enemy territory, ninja outfits, Navy Seal sharpshooters, etc., and charity dollars are way down in this currently creepy economy.

But here is the good news: a rich dude has promised he would match all the funds we could raise throughout May! We're as happy as a circus tiger with a trainer's arm in his mouth and are pushing hard to get some bucks to come in THIS MONTH. Please toss us a little (or a lot) something, every little bit helps and every dollar will be doubled! I can personally vouch that we're not rich, we work hard, and every penny goes to helping animals and the environment. For reals.

(NOTE: Some words in the text above have been italicized for your ease in picking out the important bits.)

"I can personally vouch that we're not rich, we work hard, and every penny goes to helping animals and the environment." ..I think that's wonderful! This is kind of what I do, too - except it's just me, no organization. :)

ANYWAY, I will definitely chip in. I hope that I understand the deal correctly. For instance, if one signs up for a monthly thing, that has a cash value equal to 12 months. Is the matching donor matching that value or JUST the amount actually received in May?

These things are important. :)

Dear anonymous,

Relating to your photo remark;
I'm afraid you speak "only" for the anonymous' out there (and certainly not even all of them).

@ doug nicodemus...
I'll be posting about that next Tuesday, the 12th.

@ Pagani...
Not sure how that works. I guess send an email to the address on the wfas site.

@ slaveofplastic...
We can always use volunteers, thanks for offering! Them send an email through the website.

@ Anonymous, in reference to the preferences of everyone in the entire world except those living in my house...

Hey, I live WAY outside your house, and I enjoy your photos! ;-)

Thank you for your delightful blog, and for letting us know about the WFAS matching contribution dealio. We've supported Peaceful Prairie and Farm Sanctuaries for several years, and were happy to add WFAS to our list with a contribution yesterday. Just sad it couldn't have been more!

Live long and prosper, Dan and CHNW! You're good peeps!

Can you at least try to be slightly creative in your response? "Are you omniscient"... wow.

Anonymous said...

I would respond, Dee Sh, but Piraro deletes my posts every time I try to respond to comments about my posts.

Guess he thinks you all need sheltering and can't speak for yourselves.

Anonymous said...

Karl, again - I would respond, but Piraro is deleting all my comments responding to other bloggers' attacks on me. He thinks you need a "blog mommy."

That being said, he will probably let these posts through now.

If your responses are civil, they'll get published. You are usually too snarky for my taste. Nothing personal, just trying to keep the comments on this blog from scaring people off.

Since I started moderating comments, I'm getting many more, and not from the same six or seven snipers.

So who exactly has to be "civil" here? The person who is critical of Dan's comic? I have been addressed by name numerous times by bloggers and all of my responses to them have been deleted. That sound "civil" to you? Sounds insecure to me.

"You are usually too snarky for my taste."

Didn't you say a week ago you didn't know who I was?

Piraro said...

@ Anonymous...
I don't know who you are, per se, but since you constantly point out every time I reject a snarky comment as being yours, I've come to assume you're the one writing the snarky comments. It isn't brain surgery.

Anonymous said...

You have deleted at least one comment I've made complimentary of your work, as uncommon as that is. How does that fit into "snarky"? Admit it - you are too insecure to face criticism and you are clearly trying to rid yourself of the handful of bloggers willing to dish it out.

Piraro said...

@ Anonymous...
I'm not sure what complimentary comment you are referring to, so I can't really address that. I remember just after I began moderating, I received a spate of angry comments from the usual miscreants who were insultingly vocal about my taking their sandbox away. After many childish screeds accusing me of insecurity, one comment was posted that was absurdly sycophantic and I sensed it was one of these angry people trying to prove their point. So I deleted it. If that was you, then so be it. If not, I don't know which one you're talking about.

Regarding my ability to accept criticism, you have no concept of how much criticism a person must endure to put their work in front of millions on a daily basis for a quarter of a century. I've earned my place in this industry and I don't have to explain myself to anonymous snipers.

The occasional negative comment is fine, but daily ridicule from the same handful of people who criticize 8 in 10 comics is not in my interest nor anyone else's. No one benefits other than the complainer's diminutive ego. To them, I say "leave the house, do something noteworthy, and get your own fans." In the end, it's my blog and I can do what I want.

I think I've said all I care to on this subject. Back to the real world.
