Sphinx Sphincters

Today's Bizarro was made possible by the Feline Proctological Association.

People often ask me how I come up with cartoon ideas. My routine response is that the vast majority of my ideas occur to me while watching one of my cats clean herself.

This idea, however, did not result from that activity. Instead, it came to me when I read an email from my teenage colleague, Victor, in which he attached a cartoon idea of his about the original sphinx prototype being in an embarrassing position. I liked the idea, added my inimitable professional touches (i.e.; redrew it haphazardly in my style and added some lame dialogue) and signed my name. If you know Victor, don't tell him. He's just a kid, so how much can happen, but still.

When Victor and I work together, I often feel like a crime fighter with a young sidekick, though I hope we would look better in our tights than they did in that last link. I don't know who our nemesis would be, maybe Jim Davis and Garfield? In my world, he's much scarier than The Penguin. Except in this case.

wow anonymous is always so brilliant...and thanks for letting me us your cartoons for my nonprofit group. you are a prince. but why didn't you draw him facing the crowd? the point would have been made harder and funny i think?

Funny. Though it did take me a second to get the visual (thought it was a turkey at first), but I'm guessing facing the cat forwards, while easier to recognize, would have given some newspaper editors problems.
Dan's lucky- when I work from home, I have to have my ideas while watching one of my cats attack my leg, attack the couch, attack each other... cute, but hell on concentration, since every one of those situations tends to require some kind of intervention.

Note to the brilliant mind, Doug - the word "use" has an e in it.

What the heck is wrong with Batman's drawers? Looks like somebody dropped a chihuahua in 'em! I used to watch the show after school back in the 70's and that costume fit Adam West a LOT better than that! An impressionable kid remembers these things.

The original view of this comic made me tilt my head, then after a couple seconds it dawned on me what I was seeing and I almost sprayed yogurt all over my 'puter screen. Awesome!

Anon,
No post since Tuesday and now this useful tidbit referring to the missing "e". I would be lost without you. Thanks, I needed my RDA of Bitter.

Hmm you might want to rethink things, Looks like Victor is getting his ideas from myspace members on his space.

Jeremy,

I was in Portland, Oregon in the spring. What a beautiful city, it looks like no other.

Anything that's inspired by cats is peachy with me!

So of course I'm wondering.

When myspacers discover Vic's been taking there ideas and then sending them to you.

It is vic who laughs and you who gets sued.

Hello Bloggers, this is the mythological 'Victor' (teenage spawn of Satan, if you will) mentioned in aforementioned post.

The First 'anonymous':
Haha! But on a serious note, no. Dan keeps me locked in the closet, occasionally giving me a Poptart or two when I don't bite him. But the thing is...I'm totally okay with that.

sayotte316:
Can you supply me with the link to the myspace sphinx cartoon? because i guarantee Dan that i think up these things all by myself, and i did for this one, on my own, and it has been known to happen that out of the thousands of cartoonists out there, the same idea may be used more than once. it is scientifically possible. I, among only a dozen others, do not have a myspace account, so I have never seen that cartoon.

So, if you could link me up, that'd be great. kthnx.

To all of you junior lawyers, WHOSE CAT DOES NOT LICK ITS OWN ASS!? No one STOLE this idea. One day I was sitting on the bed and two of my cats were pork-chopping at the same time. I grabbed my camera but missed the photo op because one moved on to its foot.

=v= I can't believe you left out the link to the Batman/Penguin debate.

Lorie, I'll try to keep the sentences simple and in large letters to help you out. DAN SAID HE GOT THE IDEA FROM A COMIC BY VICTOR. Understand everything now?
