Stress Mess

Today's Bizarro is brought to you by Eternal Gardening Equipment. "Helping people reap what they sow since 1846."

There are many good gags to be had in hospital situations, the inherent vulnerability of health issues sets the perfect stage for comedy. The one drawback is that with all their clutter and equipment, hospitals are tedious to draw. I've solved that somewhat with this empty hallway, but I still had to make up a bunch of electronical junk for the testing room. In truth, the hallway, too, would be a visual cacophony of gurneys, shelves, doors, and god-knows-what-else, but that would have confused the gag. Plus, more tedium.

I don't know if anyone can tell, but all of the machines in all of my cartoons are totally made up out of my head. That includes airplane cockpits, UFO consoles, operating rooms, engines, etc. I'd actually like to be able to research these things and make them more accurate, but I fight down the anal retentiveness in my nature and just make crap up.

Speaking of which, I'm due for a colonoscopy soon. If you haven't had one yet, you really don't know what you're missing. Knowing it is long overdue, each day I play out an internal battle over whether to call to make an appointment, or throw myself in front of a bus.

So far, it's been a tossup and I've done neither.

My doctor suggested a colonoscopy when I hit 50, and I managed to put it off for three years. Turns out to have been a much less horrible experience than I feared (from my memory of a :'y 25 years ago) -- the worst part was drinking the "lemon soda" cleanser. Tip: mixing it with the recommended ginger ale makes it even sweeter and more disgusting, so don't. Also, you don't really need to add extra volume to the consumption.

my brother-in-law was mentioning that just yesterday. he's apparently been putting his off for about 4 years now.
i would also consider the bus as an option.

funny cartoon, with mr death and all. the sign on the door made me giggle.

If you have colon cancer in your family, call right away. If not, don't stress. IMHO.

As a friend of mine once pointed out, the words you never want to see printed on something you've been told to drink are, "Many people find it helpful to be seated on the toilet before drinking this."

I have to go in a month or so for my first one. Whoop de freaking doo. Emphasis on the doo.

Great cartoon!

Don't stress about the colonoscopy... the worst part for me was after it was over... the cramps.

Special props to Penny -- "emphasis on the doo" indeed!

I also put mine off for 3 years after 50 (just had my first a few months ago) - it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Instead of drinking the liquid, my doctor prescribed OsmoPrep - 32 pills you can take with any clear liquid of your choice. (Taken over a several hour span.)
No cramping at all, no nasty taste. I highly recommend it (if you can take "horse pills" - they weren't small. :)

I sometimes work on the show "House" as a video playback operator. There was one scene where they were doing a colonoscopy of a patient, so it was my job to put up some pre-recorded inner-ass footage up on a monitor (no, they didn't actually give the actor an examination on camera). After running the images on a loop for a few minutes during lighting and setup, the assistant director called over the walkie-talkie "Uh, can we take down the colonoscopy footage until we're ready to shoot?!"

I asked myself "Do I really want to click on the blue 'colonoscopy' link?" I'm glad I did! Hilarious! I have filmed a couple of rodeos (guess why), and I have had to stop myself cheering for the bulls, lest I "out" myself...

Hey Dan, they instruct you to arrange for transportation home for a *very* good reason. Assuming they give you the same drug they gave me, then when you come to after the procedure, you'll feel better than you ever have in your life. Sadly, it wears off all too soon.

Colonoscopy, eh? I hear you feel loads better afterwards, like a huge weight has been lifted. Good luck with it.

Oh, and I gave you the "honor" of being my first blog-subject. Let me know what you think, please:

Not sure how it work in the US, but in Canada we get hit with Valium and Demerol before a colonoscopy, so not all bad!
