People say this Spongebob show is entertaining, even for adults, but I've never seen it. I've always heard that sponges are breeding grounds for bacteria, though, so if I had small children I think I'd be uncomfortable letting them play with him.

Dude, your comic strip is one of my favorites(Bizarro, Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes). I have started my own comic and I'm looking for any advice one would be able to throw my way. I know syndication is nearly impossible( congrats on that), but any other viable places to sell or market?

I don't know much about the industry outside of syndication. I think these days people try to post regularly on the web, gather a following, then approach publishers of various sorts with their work. Good luck with it!

Purely a compositional choice. No idea how big the "real" Spongebob is.
Sponge Bob looks rather large because he has dried out and expanded. He shrinks significantly when he gets wet. In this respect, exposing human traits.
I've seen the show (or rather, I was sat down and forced to watch it; not kidding) and I loathed it. That said, I am in love with this one. Thank you. You made me whole day.

And 'anonymous', as kids cartoons go, this is pretty good.
I think the safest bet is that sponge bob became sentient when the sponge that forms his body wasn't cleaned for several months/years, and an especially organized bacterial colony developed.

The concept of the show is rather strange.
A sponge who lives in Bikini Bottom and its best friend is a crab.
Sounds kind of gross if you think about it and not germ free at all.
@ Inga Huff I'll give you that it's decent compared to more recent childrens' cartoons, but it doesn't even hold a flicker of candlelight to the shows that were around when I grew up. Unfortunately, most of those are long since abandoned and often very hard to find at all, so children are stuck with the dumbed-down shows we give them today.
To be fair, adult shows aren't much better.
Anon, are you referring to the Warner Bros. cartoons there weren't even made for kids?
No, I'm speaking of cartoons from even before my time a bit, honestly. Things like 'Smoggies' ('Stop the Smoggies' in the US) and the animated series for 'White Fang', or the tales from 'Happily Ever After'.
Not to say I don't like Warner Bros cartoons, but I do leave them out for precisely that adult aim.
In any case, I've tried watching the newer cartoons. I've also gone back and re-watched several cartoons from my childhood to see how they match up ('Captain Planet', anyone?). I've found there's a fine difference in being simple for children and being idiotic.
My mother just mailed this clipping from her local paper. Brilliant! My kids are obsessed with SpongeBob and while I found him initially entertaining, I now want to scream when I hear the theme song.
It is funny. You should watch at least one episode.
And I see 3Dtoo, don't forget that a squirrel named Sandy Cheeks also lives in Bikini Bottom!
