Dancing Mr. Goober
Bizarro is brought to you today by Rock n Roll Icons.
Last week I mentioned that someone wrote to me and said he didn't understand a cartoon of mine and didn't know how I ever got syndicated. This was the gag in question.
I admit that this cartoon is surreal, but that is the intention. You see a street musician setting up with a boombox and a guitar case and you expect him to play guitar. He opens the case and a guitar-shaped man climbs out and starts dancing to the boombox. If I saw this on the streets where I live, I'd laugh.
Come to think of it, this probably is happening in New York City somewhere. There isn't much that's not.
Until tomorrow...a clown you do not know is a disguised stranger.

what's not to get!
the guitar-shaped man looks like you Dan :)
love your comics!
I thought this one was inspired when I first read it last week. (I still do.)
I am a street musician in New York City (though I don't play guitar, I play the musical saw). I just wanted to tell you that I relate and I like your cartoon! I think it's funny. And I wish I had a guitar (or in my case a musical saw) that would do the work for me ;)
All the best,

Hey, I know this is off topic, but if anyone is interested, there were a lot of libertarians present at the 9/12 Tea Party who pointed out that Republicans as well as Democrats are responsible for the problems we have with big government. So not everyone there was crazy.
You know, if any of you are interested, libertarian protesters at the Tea Party were pointing out that Republicans, as well as Democrats, are responsible for the problems we have with big government.

It took me a second to get it. But when I did, I laughed.
lol being me, I enjoyed this one right away. I'll have to keep an eye on your next contest. I miss the Time/Life insert in the Friday paper that had a Spot The Difference portion. Good times. I have a Beatles brainteaser on my site if you're interested. It will be the featured post for the rest of the week.
Well I have to say that I love this one. I laughed out loud immediately. I love the joyful look on the guitar case mans face. It just makes me happy and is not making fun of anyone(except of course for the relatively unknown tribes of guitar shaped humans) to make someone laugh.
Bring on more of these types of cartoons. Joy, Joy, Joy!
it would be funny if a guy did that and pulled out a cardboard or toy guitar... not that you could draw that!
or you could have a guy playing country music and instead handing out money for listening to it :P
whats funny to one person isnt always funny to another
Wow, I hadn't thought of Spike Jones in years. The Weird Al Yankovich of his day. I had a good friend in high school who used to play his dad's Spike Jones records. We loved them. I really wonder why they haven't been resurrected by someone.
Thanks for memory.
i like it.
I pride myself in "getting" most of your comics, but this one didn't make sense to me. I thought you were making some obtuse misspelled reference to The Carpenter's "Mister Guder"! Once I read your blog entry, I realized that dancing dude is guitar shaped. I feel so stupid...!
Love it! Awesome comic!
you've been inspired lately - the ascent of the snowman was a howl...your abstract ones are real smilers...
I can't stop laughing...!!!
Being slower than molasses and sensitive to the rapidly vanishing ability of humans to exercise hand/eye coordination in the pursuit of artistic excellence in all its permutations, I was content just to laugh at a guy having dragged out a boombox to play, in lieu of a guitar, from his guitar case. I thought the dancing guy was just a passerby.
Duh...
I suppose that is part of the reason that I so love your work--you make me laugh even when I've only partly comprehended AND you come back to gently explain the error of my ways to me. What's not to like?
